This International Women’s Day, Tuesday 8th of March, enjoy a stellar line-up of female comedians and support the essential work of the Pankhurst Trust (Incorporating Manchester Women’s Aid). Taking place at the legendary Frog and Bucket Comedy Club the evening will be packed full of brilliant local and award-winning talent, with Jessica Fostekew, Erika Ehler, Bethany Black and Eryn Tett all featuring, and Lou Conran as MC.
In 2020-21 Manchester Women’s Aid provided safety, advice and signposting to support services for 3,711 victims of domestic abuse. This equates to an alarming 30% increase in demand for services compared to the previous year. Funding has not been able to keep up with demand, which is why its supporters are so incredibly important.
The range of support services that Manchester Women’s Aid has been delivering during these additionally challenging times has included confidential temporary accommodation, play services, advice and counselling. It also has five refuges across Manchester catering for up to 30 families in crisis, providing emergency temporary housing for single women and women with children who are freeing themselves from domestic violence and abuse.
Director of Operations at Manchester Women’s Aid, Elaine de Fries, says, “Marking International Women’s Day at the Frog and Bucket is going to be a fantastic occasion celebrated with some exceptional female comedians and a brilliant audience all united in supporting Manchester Women’s Aid.
“Since the start of the pandemic, demand for our services has increased threefold but our funding has not, which is why we must also rely on the kindness of our supporters. The Comedy Fundraiser is not only going to help us raise funds, but also awareness of the life-saving services that we provide.”
It’s a not to be missed roll call of comic genius that makes up the International Women’s Day Comedy Fundraiser for Manchester Women’s Aid; Jessica, Erika, Bethany, Eryn and Lou are all recognised across the industry and renowned for their performance and writing skills.
Tickets are priced at £18.50 (plus booking fee of £1.50), with the additional option to watch online for £10 (plus booking fee of £1.50) and can be booked here. Doors open from 7pm and the acts take to the stage from 8pm. All the funds raised will go directly to supporting some of the most vulnerable women and children in Manchester, including refugees and survivors of domestic abuse.
